ISRAEL: According to media reports, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a state-owned business, would provide Morocco with an advanced air and missile defence system after signing a $600 million deal.

According to Israel's Channel 12 TV news and financial website Globes, IAI will provide Morocco with the Barak MX system, in a deal that began to take shape during Defense Minister Benny Gantz's visit to Morocco in November last year. Barak MX provides a single integrated solution for multiple simultaneous aerial threats from different sources and ranges in a variety of mission types and battle conditions.

Fighters, sea-skimming and cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, drones, helicopters, and glide bombs are among the threats, and the system has three intercept ranges of 35, 70, and 150 kilometres.

Morocco and Israel struck a historic deal in December 2020 to establish full diplomatic ties.According to Channel 12, the agreement comes amid rising tensions between Morocco and Algeria, as well as the prospect of booby-trapped drones being used against the North African country.
