Lucknow: There is a park in the Company Bagh of Prayagraj named after the great revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad, where Azad attained valour while fighting the British. However, the park has now been built up to mosques and Mazars with the intention of occupying it. The Allahabad High Court has ordered the authorities to free them from all encroachments of the park within two days.

The court has asked the park to submit a report by October 8 freeing encroachments. The case was heard by a bench of Acting Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Munishwar Nath Bhandari and Justice Piyush Agarwal. The bench said that all illegal encroachments that took place after 1975 should be demolished. The court had earlier adjourned the matter for final hearing on September 30. The high court had summoned senior officials of district administration, Prayagraj Development Authority, horticulture department in the case. The court made a scathing remark that when the Supreme Court had declared all the constructions before 1975 illegal, how did the new constructions take place there. Why were these not dealt with?

In this case, a man named Jitendra Singh had filed a petition through advocate Hari Shankar Jain. The petition filed on February 23 said that the entire park is being converted into a cemetery. The petition had said that some members of the Muslim community are constructing artificial tombs to occupy the parkland. They are trying to convert a park building into a mosque in the area.
