Trichy: A horrible incident came to the light from Trichy, where a 5-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by her mother for watching TV for long hours. The incident occurred on Monday in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu. The victim P Lathika Sri, a resident of Pallivasal Street in Kattuputhur, was declared brought dead at a government hospital in nearby Salem district. Police have started interrogating the parents.

According to the sources, the victim was the only child of the accused parents. The incident occurred when the accused mother Nithiya Kamalam, got upset with her daughter being continuously glued to the TV despite repeated warnings.

The accused started beating the victim with a leather belt all over her body. Later, the accused forced her daughter to stand outside in the scorching heat leading her to faint.

The girl was taken to a local primary health centre to administer first aid. The victim was later refereed to a government hospital in Namakkal district. When the girl's health deteriorated, she was later taken to Salem government hospital.
 
Salem police had informed the Kattuputhur police about the incident. According to the police, the truth behind the incident will be known only after the interrogating of the parents. The victim’s body was kept at Salem hospital for postmortem.
