New Delhi: Admiral R Hari Kumar took over as navy chief on Tuesday. Admiral R Hari Kumar touched his mother's feet and hugged her when she took over as the new Navy Chief. He replaced Admiral Karambir Singh, who is retiring on November 30. A video of the special moment has also surfaced showing how the new Navy Chief R Hari Kumar is seeking blessings from his mother and embracing her.

 

Hari Kumar was the Chief of the Integrated Staff Committee of the Integrated Defence Staff Headquarters before assuming charge as Vice Admiral. Born on April 12, 1962, Vice Admiral Kumar was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on January 1, 1983. During his long and distinguished service of 39 years, the Vice Admiral has served in various command, staff and instructional positions.

Vice Admiral Kumar has also served as operating officer of the Western Fleet. Hari Kumar's maritime command currently includes INS Nishank, Missile Corvette, INS Kora and Guided Missile Destroyer INS Ranveer. Hari Kumar has studied at Naval War College US, Army War College Mhow and Royal College of Defence Studies UK. He has been awarded param vishisht seva medal (PVSM), ati vishisht seva medal (AVSM) and vishisht seva medal.
