New Delhi: M Venkaiah Naidu, the vice president of India and chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, stated on Friday that Members of the Parliament (MPs) cannot avoid being summoned by law enforcement in criminal cases, whether or not a session is in session.

Vice President Biden's comments came as the Enforcement Directorate is investigating money-laundering allegations involving Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, and former West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee.

"When the session is in session or not, MPs cannot escape being summoned by law enforcement agencies in criminal situations. It is our responsibility as law-abiding people to respect the law and the court system, "M. Venkaiah Naidu made this statement today in the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Parliament.
On July 18, the Monsoon Session began, and it will end on August 12.

Congress has often questioned the price increase and the increase in the Goods and Service Tax (GST). On these concerns, Congress MPs have been protesting both within and outside of Parliament. The protests occur as Sonia Gandhi, the president of the Congress, and Rahul Gandhi, a member of parliament, are being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate regarding a case involving the National Herald newspaper.

Sanjay Raut was also detained by the Enforcement Directorate shortly after midnight on August 1 in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the chawl's reconstruction. The Enforcement Directorate also seized over 50 crores in cash and undeclared assets from locations connected to West Bengal Minister and now-suspended TMC leader Partha Chatterjee last month.

Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, on Friday referred to Rahul Gandhi as a "false Gandhi" whose ideology was also "fake" in one of the strongest attacks on the Congressman by the BJP, which is currently in power at the federal level.

Joshi remarked in remarks to reporters while on the grounds of the Parliament: "Rahul Gandhi is not related to Mahatma Gandhi in any way. He is a Gandhi impostor, or "nakli." It's also a false ideology."
