NEW DELHI: Several parliament members, including union ministers and young parliamentarians today (August 3) , took part in a bike rally in Delhi that originated from the historic Red Fort to pay tribute to the freedom fighters as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The event sought to strengthen the sense of patriotism among citizens while sending out a social message with tricolors in the streets and MPs on wheels.

Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, spoke with reporters near India Gate after participating in the event by riding a bike from the Mughal-era Red Fort. 

''Many central ministers, MPs and young leaders came together, and commenced the bike rally from the historic Red Fort to give the message that 'we are paying our tribute to our freedom fighters and recollecting them', and also to make sure that in this Azadi-ka-Amrit-Mahotsav, we will work to maintain the unity and integrity of the nation, and strengthen the glory of India,'' he said.

Thakur, a fourth-term member of the Lok Sabha representing the Himachal Pradesh district of Hamirpur, is also in charge of youth affairs and sports.

The "Har Ghar Tiranga" motorcycle rally was held the day after the Ministry of Culture celebrated the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav with a large-scale "Tiranga Utsav" celebration on Tuesday.

During the Tiranga Utsav, Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged people to enthusiastically take part in the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign to show the world that India has "risen from slumber" and is rapidly progressing under Prime Minister Narendra Modi while on course to become a "great" power.
