Lucknow: The post-mortem report of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari has confirmed that he died of cardiac arrest. Ansari, a five-time former MLA from Mau who had been booked in more than 60 cases, passed away on Thursday night after being rushed to Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda. He was lodged in the district jail at the time.
His family had alleged that he died due to "slow poisoning" while in jail. Ansari's son, Umar Ansari, claimed that his father was subjected to "slow poisoning" and demanded that his post-mortem be conducted by AIIMS doctors in Delhi. In a letter addressed to the Banda District Magistrate, Umar Ansari expressed that his family had "no faith" left in the Banda administration and the local medical system.
According to a senior hospital source overseeing the post-mortem examination, the cause of Mukhtar Ansari's death was determined to be a heart attack (myocardial infarction). The autopsy was carried out by a panel of five doctors. Umar Ansari, the younger son of Mukhtar Ansari, was present during the post-mortem conducted at Rani Durgavati Medical College.
Following the post-mortem, a lengthy convoy of vehicles departed Banda in the evening with Mukhtar Ansari's body, which was later buried in his home district of Ghazipur on Saturday morning.
