Mumbai: There was a lot of ruckus in 'Aarey Colony' on Friday night. Actually, when the work of cutting down trees started on the Mumbai metro site, people protesting against the cutting of trees gathered there. Protesters started shouting slogans against cutting trees. The protesters also tried to enter the boundary where trees were being cut.

In view of a large number of people, more than 250 police personnel were posted on the spot along with 4 battalions of SRP, senior officers of Additional, DCP and 4 police stations. The protesters blocked the road for some time. The police had to resort to lathi-charge to remove the people who were protesting. Police took into custody about 60 protesters. The police sealed all the routes to 'Aarey' colony.

On Friday, the Bombay High Court dismissed four petitions filed against the construction of a metro car shed in Aarey Colony, Mumbai. Now the third phase of the metro has become easier for the journey of 33.5 km from Cuffe Parade to SEEPZ to Aarey Metro Car Shed.
