Mumbai, India - Flight operations at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai have been temporarily suspended today as essential maintenance on its two runways takes place. The airport will remain closed for six hours, with maintenance work scheduled from 11 am to 5 pm, as announced by CSMIA.

A spokesperson from CSMIA stated, "As part of CSMIA's comprehensive post-monsoon runway maintenance plan, both runways – RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32 – will be temporarily out of operation on October 17. This planned temporary closure is a critical component of CSMIA's annual post-monsoon preventative maintenance strategy. A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued six months in advance to inform all relevant parties." The Mumbai airport typically handles around 900 flights daily.

Reason for Flight Operations Suspension:
The airport is temporarily closed for post-monsoon repair and maintenance works. The airport authority emphasized that these annual maintenance tasks are crucial for ensuring continuous operational safety and passenger well-being.

"CSMIA, in collaboration with all key stakeholders, has efficiently rescheduled flights to ensure a seamless completion of the maintenance. CSMIA appreciates the cooperation and support of its passengers during this time," stated CSMIA in an official statement.

Impressive Passenger Traffic Growth at Mumbai Airport:

Notably, the Mumbai International Airport experienced a remarkable 33% growth in passenger traffic during the September quarter, with the airport authorities recording a total passenger volume of 1.27 crore, up from 96 lakh during the same period in the previous year.
