Mumbai: On Thursday, Chief Engineer of BMC, Sanjay Darade, came up with a shocking set of excuses when he was confronted on Mumbai foot over bridge collapse incident. Speaking to Source, the civic official said, “Structural audit of the bridge was carried out and recommendations were also made. A slab of the bridge has collapsed while the structural frame is as it is.” He further said that BMC will hold an inquiry into the matter and take action against those found guilty.
Fadnavis said in a tweet “Pained to hear about the FOB incident near TOI building in Mumbai. Spoke to BMC Commissioner and @MumbaiPolice officials and instructed to ensure speedy relief efforts in coordination with @RailMinIndia officials,”. Maharashtra Minister Vinod Tawde said that Railways and BMC will conduct an inquiry into the maintenance of the bridge.
He added “A slab of the bridge had collapsed. Railways and BMC will conduct an inquiry into its maintenance. The bridge wasn't in bad condition. It required minor repairs for which work was underway. Why was it not closed until the work was completed, it'll also be probed,”.
It is to be noted that as many as six persons were killed and 36 others injured after a section of the foot over bridge near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) collapsed earlier today.
