Mumbai: To get rid of the parking problem in Mayanagari, the BMC had allotted land to private builders a few years ago to build parking complexes. Multi-storage parking complexes have also been built in Mumbai's busiest locations, South Mumbai, Bandra, Dadar, Vileparle, Mahalakshmi and many other areas, but more vehicles are still parked in the parking complex.

Because of this, parking is low, and congestion on roads is also high. The BMC has found a different way to get rid of it. The BMC has made rules that scooters parked in illegal parking lots, or two-wheelers, will have to pay fines ranging from 5,000 to 8,000. On the other hand, a fine will also be levied on illegal vehicles standing only 500 metres from the dedicated parking complex.

The amount of fines is kept for four-wheelers ranging from 10,000 to 23000. On the very first day, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation officials picked up 61 vehicles from the illegal parking area and handed over the penalty receipt. The BMC recovered 1,83,000 in the first day as a penalty.
