This time Indian Super League (ISL) winning Mumbai City FC team has become the first Indian team to win an AFC Champions League match. Mumbai City FC achieved the record by defeating Iraq's Air Force Club 2-1 in their second thrilling group stage match at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh here on Monday night. It was a very challenging contest between Mumbai City FC, who finished 5th in ISL 2022, and Air Force Club, the third-ranked team of the 2021-22 Iraqi Premier League.

To what extent both the teams have competed with each other in the match, which can be gauged from the fact that the first goal of the match has been scored in the 59th minute. Due to the aggressive attack and strong defence of both the teams, the first half was goalless. The first few minutes of the second half went without a goal, but then the drought of the goal ended in the 59th minute when veteran Air Force Club forward Hammadi Ahmed scored a brilliant goal to take the team 1-0 up.

Mumbai FC, however, made a great comeback later. Forward Diego Mauricio's goal from a penalty stroke in the 70th minute and defender Rahul Bheke's brilliant header in the 75th minute has completely changed the course of the match. The 2-1 lead from these two goals was maintained by the team till the end and took important three points. With this crucial win, the Mumbai City FC team has moved up to the second spot in Group B after Al Shabaab. Mumbai City FC is now scheduled to take on Al Jazeera here on April 14.
