Mumbai: A special court in Mumbai, the country's economic capital, has convicted six people, including underworld don Chhota Rajan. Chhota Rajan has been convicted under the Arms Act in a criminal conspiracy, murder, attempt to murder and a 2012 BR Shetty shoot-out case. The quantum of punishment for all the convicts, including Rajendra Nikhilje alias Chhota Rajan, will also be debated today.

In 2013, the Mumbai Police had filed a 1332-page charge sheet against underworld don Chhota Rajan. It was claimed that in 2012, It was Chhota Rajan who ordered his operatives to murder hotelier B R Shetty. Apart from Mumbai, there were many hotels in B R Shetty abroad. On October 3, 2012, the criminals shot Shetty on a bike and escaped from the spot. Shetty himself reached the police station after two bullets were shot in the shoulder and he was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

According to sources, Chhota Rajan suspected Shetty was in a meeting with his opponents and was also close to police officer Pradeep Sharma. In its charge sheet, the police had indicted Satish Thankappan alias Kalia, Kaleya's nephew Selvan Chelapan, Nityanand Nayak, Deepak Upadhyay and Talwinder Singh alias Sonu, the main accused in Chhota Rajan's case.
