MUMBAI: The Mumbai Indians, owned by Reliance Industries on March 19 announced the acquisition of the New York franchise in Major League Cricket, the forthcoming T20 league in the United States, thus owning a cricket franchise in three different continents, four different countries, and five different leagues.

The MI New York cricket team will join the Mumbai Indians (IPL), MI Cape Town (SA20), MI Emirates (ILT20), and Mumbai Indians-Women as the family's fifth cricket franchise (WPL). The first professional Twenty20 cricket league in the US will be called Major League Cricket. In the summer of 2023, Major League Cricket will hold its first season.
The Mumbai Indians announced in a release on Sunday that MI New York will take part in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC), pending the conclusion of customary due diligence, negotiation, and execution of legally binding agreements, and receipt of necessary corporate, regulatory, and third-party approvals and compliances.

Mrs. Nita Mukesh Ambani said, "Welcoming our New York franchise to the expanding MI Family makes me incredibly happy. I hope we are able to develop Mumbai Indians as a global brand of daring and entertaining cricket with our participation into the first cricket league in the States! For MI, this marks another fresh start, and I eagerly anticipate the thrilling ride that lies ahead." According to the statement, the MI OneFamily is dedicated to growing and supporting cricket around the world and gets stronger daily.
