Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Dec. 29 (NT): Social activist Mangesh Kalaskar on Friday embraced “illegal construction" at Kamala Mills premises and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) carelessness is accountable for the accident which claimed 14 lives in Mumbai in the wee hours of the Friday morning today.

A massive fire broke out at a building in Kamala Mills Compound in the Lower Parel area of Mumbai in the wee hours of Friday morning.

Addressing the media reporters here, Kalaskar asserted that he made a number of complaints on the subject of the illegal construction but the matter was not taken up seriously by the BMC.

He said in press meet “I made several complaints regarding illegal structures of pubs and hotels in Kamala Mills premises, but the BMC said there was nothing wrong," he added.

14 people have been reported deceased and a number of others wounded.

Majority of those killed are women, as per to the reports of civic authorities.Reportedly, the fire appeared to have happened at a restaurant on the top floor of the building, although the reason for the fire is yet to be determined.

CM Devendra Fadnavis gives assurance of an in-depth inquiry for Mumbai-Massive fire broke out.

 “Disturbing to know about the loss of lives in unfortunate #KamalaMills fire incident in Mumbai.My thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.Directed the BMC Commissioner to conduct an in-depth inquiry”, He tweeted. (NT)
