New Delhi: The global pandemic coronavirus has led to the suspension of local trains called Lifeline in Mumbai since March 22. Railway officials say the service is not likely to start before November. The suspension of train services has outraged the passengers and also protested outside the railway stations.

About 300 angry passengers protested outside Virar railway station Monday afternoon demanding permission to travel by local trains. The incident took place at around 11 am when the office-going staff gathered outside the station and demanded to resume suburban train services.  However, the protestors were calmed down within half an hour by railway Protection Police (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police personnel.

Earlier on July 22, angry passengers in Nalasopara demanded that they should be allowed to travel by local trains. Even at that time, the protestors had broken the barricades and gathered on the tracks to disrupt the railway services. Currently, the essential service personnel who are fighting against the corona pandemic are allowed to travel by suburban trains in Mumbai.
