Mumbai: Mumbai Police has summoned Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Subodh Jaiswal to probe the illegal phone tap case in an unprecedented development. In fact, as part of the recent information received, the authorities have informed about it last Saturday. Let me tell all of you that through an email, the CBI chief has been asked to come here on October 14 to record his statement in the case, which sparked a major political controversy after it was leaked in March this year.

Let me tell you that Subodh Jaiswal was the Director-General of Police of Maharashtra during that time. There was an alleged phone tapping at that time. During the tenure of former BJP Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the state intelligence department was led by IPS officer Rashmi Shukla. It is also being said that both the IPS officers have now been transferred out of the state. On the other hand, IPS officer Rashmi Shukla has recorded her statement with the Mumbai Police.

Let me tell you that the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government had conducted a preliminary inquiry and subsequently appointed a 3-member inquiry panel to look into all phone tapping cases ordered during the previous BJP-led regime. Let me tell you that Jaiswal, a 1985 batch IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre, was appointed as the Head of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in May this year for a period of two years.
