A significant milestone has been achieved in the development of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, as confirmed by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). The project has successfully completed 100 kilometers of viaducts and executed 230 kilometers of pier work, signifying substantial progress in this ambitious endeavor.

Utilizing innovative techniques such as the 'Full Span Launching technique' (FSLM), the NHSRCL accomplished the construction of 100 kilometers of viaducts. This method involves the use of 40-meter-long 'full span box girders' and 'segmental girders,' significantly accelerating the construction process. This advanced approach is reported to be ten times faster than the traditional span-by-span technique commonly used in metro viaduct construction.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video on a designated platform to mark and inform the public about this remarkable achievement.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail: Progress Timeline
The project commenced its journey with the launch of the first girder on November 25, 2021. Remarkably, the first kilometer of viaduct was completed within six months, by June 30, 2022. The pace of construction accelerated further, reaching 50 kilometers by April 22, 2023, and eventually reaching the notable milestone of 100 kilometers within the subsequent six months.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail: Pier Work, Noise Barriers, and Track Bed Development
Apart from the viaducts, the constructed infrastructure includes bridges over six Gujarat rivers: Par and Auranga in Valsad district, and Purna, Mindhola, Ambika, and Venganiya in Navsari district. Additionally, 250 kilometers of pier work has been successfully completed. The installation of noise barriers along the constructed viaduct is presently ongoing.

The NHSRCL has initiated the laying of the first reinforced concrete (RC) track bed for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. Drawing inspiration from the renowned Japanese Shinkansen, this track system is currently underway in Surat.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: Project Cost and Funding
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor project is estimated to cost Rs 1.08 lakh crore. As per the shareholding pattern, the Union government is committed to contributing Rs 10,000 crore, while both Gujarat and Maharashtra will each contribute Rs 5,000 crore. The remaining funding will be secured through a loan from Japan with a negligible 0.1 percent interest rate.

The foundation for the bullet train project was laid in Ahmedabad in September 2017. With the anticipation of covering a distance exceeding 500 kilometers in just about two hours, this high-speed train initiative promises a significant transformation in regional rail transportation.
