Mumbai: This morning Heavy rains has been lashing Mumbai and according to sources and it will continue for a few days. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted "heavy to very heavy" rains in the city on June 9 and in Maharashtra in general June 7-11.
According to TOI, 27.6 mm rainfall recorded by IMD Colaba Observatory between 8.30 am-2.30 pm today. IMD Santacruz recorded 37.8 mm rain for the duration of the same period.
The rains have already caused water logging in several parts of Mumbai, especially in low lying areas. Now possibility of flooding is also high.
Despite heavy rain in south Mumbai and suburbs, Western Railway’s suburban services are running normal, said a spokesperson.
Ajay Kumar scientist from IMD Mumbai in his official statement said that these were still pre monsoon showers which the city has been receiving since morning.
"We are expecting monsoons to reach most parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai within the next 72 hours. Presently we have declared the onset of monsoons upto Goa," he noted.
Worth mentioning here there is a certain criteria set by IMD before they announce the beginning of monsoons over a particular region specifically wind direction which needs to be south west and the district/city should record two days of constant showers.
