The Amarnath Yatra will commence on July 21. Lord Shiva had shown the path of salvation to Goddess Parvati in the holy cave of Amarnath. The story of this period is called 'Amarkatha'. The place was named 'Amarnath'. This story was a dialogue between Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva.

It is said that when Lord Shiva was narrating this story to Goddess Parvati, then a child of a woodpecker was also listening to this knowledge. Parvati used to nod in between while hearing the story but she fell asleep while listening to the story. A child sitting there started nodding instead of Parvati. When Lord Shiva came to know about this, he ran to kill the child and threw trident towards him. It is said that the child kept running in all the three worlds to save his life and while running, he came to Vyasji's ashram and made a subtle form and entered the mouth of his wife Vatika. During this time he remained in her womb.

It is said that he did not come out of the womb for 12 years. When Lord Shri Krishna himself came and assured him that nothing will affect you when you'll come out, then he comes out of the womb and later came to be known as Vyas' son. In the womb, he has attained knowledge of Vedas, Upanishads, Darshan and Puranas. After birth, he bowed to Sri Krishna and his parents and went to the forest for austerity and later he became famous in the world by the name of Sukhdev Muni.
