"To be successful in life what you need is education, not literacy and degrees". The person who tried to portray the world like a simple and easy place to live in his books and poems carved a niche. Munshi Premchand wrote stories of reality and the lives of people in rural India.

He began writing under the pen name "Nawab Rai", but subsequently switched to "Premchand".  Munshi Premchand was a novel writer, story writer, and dramatist. He was termed as the "Upanyas Samrat" ("Emperor among Novelists") by writers. His works include more than a dozen novels, around 300 short stories, several essays, and translations of a number of foreign literary works into Hindi.

He was born on July 31, 1880, in Lumhi village, four miles from Banaras city. Premchand is one of the most popular and most liked authors not only in India but in the world. October 8  is the death anniversary of Premchand. On this occasion, we are going to share some of his special compositions with you.

In almost every story of Premchand, the characters are common people. Their stories reflect the problems of the common man and the ups and downs of life.
