Murmu reaches Hyderabad to attend Alluri's birth anniversary fest

HYDERABAD: President Droupadi Murmu made her arrival in Hyderabad on Tuesday, July 4, marking her presence at the closing ceremony commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of the esteemed freedom fighter, Alluri Sitarama Raju.

A gracious welcome was extended to President Murmu by Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekar Rao, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism G. Kishan Reddy, as well as state ministers and prominent officials, at Air Force Station Hakimpet.

In attendance to receive the President were State ministers P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, Satyavathi Rathore, Mehmood Ali, Srinivas Yadav, Malla Reddy, Greater Hyderabad Vijayalaxmi Gadwal, along with Chef Secretary Santhi Kumari, Director General of Police Anjani Kumar, and various other officials.

Subsequently, President Murmu proceeded to Rashtrapati Nilayam at Bolarum, where she is scheduled to deliver an address at the closing ceremony of the 125th birth anniversary celebration of Alluri Sitarama Raju, taking place at Gachibowli in the evening.

To ensure smooth proceedings during the President's visit, the police have implemented traffic restrictions in certain areas.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the yearlong celebration of Alluri Sitarama Raju's 125th birth anniversary in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, on July 4 of the previous year.

Born on July 4, 1897, Alluri Sitarama Raju is hailed for his valiant struggle against the British in safeguarding the rights of tribal communities in the Eastern Ghats region of Andhra Pradesh. He led the Rampa rebellion, an uprising that commenced in 1922. Locally, he is revered as the 'Manyam Veerudu' (Hero of the Jungles).
