Islamabad: Former Pakistan Test leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has been made spin bowling consultant for one year. Mushtaq's first task is to work with veteran spinner Yasir Shah at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore to prepare him for the second Test match against Sri Lanka in Karachi.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Yasir has been rested from the national team and asked to meet the new spin advisor in Lahore. Yasir, who has taken 200 wickets in Test cricket, is in poor form for the last few days. Mushtaq will work 120 days a year with the domestic bowlers of the Under 16 and Under 19 teams at the National Cricket Academy. Mushtaq, who was a spin consultant for the West Indies team, has been a bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy earlier.

During his career, 49-year-old Mushtaq has taken 185 wickets in 52 Test matches for Pakistan, while his stakes have taken 161 wickets in 144 ODIs. He will now play an important role in identifying new spin talent.
