Music has been used throughout human history to express and affect human emotion. Music can be beneficial for anyone. Although it can be used therapeutically for people who have physical, emotional, social, or cognitive deficits, or those who are healthy can use music to relax, reduce stress, improve mood, or to accompany exercise.

The uses of music therapy is mostly advised for the treatment of autism, substance abuse, Alzheimer's disease and pain. There are very few who aware of the exciting work that's being done with children who have serious emotional disturbances. Children with such disturbances have diagnosable mental health disorders and extreme functional impairment that limit or interfere with the ability to function in the family, school and community.

-Music is a core function in a child’s brain. The brain is primed early on to respond to and process music. Research has shown day-old infants can detect differences in rhythmic patterns.

-Their bodies entrain to rhythm. When a musical sound enters thier central nervous system via the auditory nerve, most of the input goes to the brain for processing.

-They have physiologic responses to music. This helps emotional kids as well as it helps stimulate a person in a coma or helps someone relax.

-Music taps the child’s emotions. Have you ever smiled or felt sad or cried listening to a piece of music? Whether from the music itself, or from their associations with the music, music taps into their emotional systems.
