Citizenship Amendment Bill: Muslim League files petition in Supreme Court

New Delhi: First petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). Four MPs of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) have stated in their petition that the Constitution does not allow classification on the basis of religion. This bill is a violation of Article 14 of the Constitution, so this bill should be repealed.

The Indian Union Muslim League has said in its petition that, according to Article 14 of the Constitution, the Citizenship Amendment Bill does not meet the twin test. Classification on the basis of religion is against the basic spirit of the Constitution. This bill violates the basic principles of secularism mentioned in the constitution. A petition has been filed on behalf of 4 Muslim League MPs. Indian Union Muslim League MPs are present in the top court.

The Indian Union Muslim League has said in its petition filed in the apex court that the Constitution does not allow classification on the basis of religion. This bill is a violation of Article 14 of the Constitution. Protesting the bill, Muslim League MP PK Kunhalkutty said that we have filed a case against the Citizenship Amendment Bill passed by Parliament on Wednesday. This is against the basic principles of our Constitution. It is completely against the basic spirit of the Constitution and no one will be allowed to destroy it on the basis of religion.
