Kabul: Afghanistan's Taliban government has banned the education of girls after the sixth grade. Reneging on its promise, the Taliban did not open secondary schools. Muslim women and girls have taken to the streets in protest. People protested outside the Taliban's education ministry on Saturday and demanded the opening of schools for girls.

As soon as the girls started coming to school after the start of the new academic year, the Taliban has issued a decree to close the schools. The protesters raised slogans in front of the Taliban's Ministry of Education, "Education is our right!" Open the doors of the girls' school. As women and girls were shouting slogans like this, Taliban gunmen were looking at them.

Speaking to the media, a female teacher said, "Whenever it comes to standing up for freedom and talking about girls who want to go to school, I am ready to die for them. We are here for our daughters' right to education. Without that right, we would have already been dead," the Taliban said, adding that schools could remain closed until a "comprehensive" and "Islamic" plan is made for them. There is a lot of resentment among the people by this move.
