Free Covid-19 vaccine in BJP manifesto kicks up storm.  Many states have inducted free covid vaccines in their election manifesto. After BJP’s promise in the Bihar poll manifesto to provide Covid vaccine free for the people of Bihar, the Maha Vikas Aghadi or MVA govt minister Nawab Malik has also announced that In Maharashtra, our government will also make availability of Covid-19 vaccine free for all.

Nawab Malik said the coronavirus-induced lockdown which led to the loss of lives and jobs could have been averted if the Centre had immediately sealed the borders after the World Health Organization alerted about the virus on December 31, 2019. Maharashtra accounts for over 25 pc of India’s active Covid-19 patients Malik’s announcement comes on a day when the Maharashtra Government has launched preparations for a database of health workers for Covid-19 vaccination.

Principal Secretary of Public Health Department, Dr Pradeep Vyas in his letter has asked the district collectors, divisional commissioners, and municipal commissioners that government and private facilities should complete the database by October 25.  He noted that the Chief Secretary would review preparations and progress in the matter on Monday, October 26 at 12.30 pm over a video conference. The database will be uploaded subsequently on Covid19 vaccine beneficiary system for individualized tracking.

Dr Vyas explained the government facilities include health facilities owned by the state comprising hospitals, medical colleges, super-specialty hospitals, community and primary health centers, health and wellness centers, clinics, dispensaries and tribal health facilities. Further, these facilities also consist of AYUSH hospitals and dispensaries, health facilities under civic bodies, District, and village Council.
