There is a belief about this temple dedicated to Goddess Kali that the mother Dhari present here protects the Chardham of Uttarakhand. According to a legend, once the temple was swept away by a severe flood. Simultaneously the idol of the goddess present in it also got washed away and she collided with a rock near Dharo village and stopped. They also say that a divine voice came out of that idol, who instructed the villagers to install the idol at that place. After this, the villagers together made a temple of Mother there. According to the priests, the statue of the goddess stripe in the temple has been established since the Dwapar era.

They also say that the temple of Maa Dhari was demolished in 2013 and their idol was removed from their original place, due to which there was a terrible flood in Uttarakhand that year, in which thousands of people died. It is believed that the idol of Dhara Devi was removed on the evening of 16 June 2013 and a few hours after that the state had a disaster. Later the temple was built again at the same place.
