Damascus: Before dawn on Sunday, residents of Damascus and state media reported hearing repeated explosions in the vicinity of the Syrian capital.

In the past, similar incidents have typically been attributed to Israeli airstrikes, with Syrian air defences responding to shoot down the missiles. However, there was no immediate statement from government officials regarding the source or target of the attack.

The most recent incident of this kind occurred on August 7, according to Syrian state media, when Israeli airstrikes hit areas near Damascus and killed at least four Syrian army soldiers.
