Every year Panchami of Shukla Paksha of Sawan month is celebrated as Nag Panchami with enthusiasm across the country. This time the festival of Nag Panchami is coming on 25 July. The festival of Nag Panchami also informs us that the snake is our friend and not the enemy of mankind. They are also called 'Kshetrapal' for protecting the fields (eating rats and insects) and for this reason they are also considered venerable. Not only this, they are enthralled in Lord Shiva's neck and increase their beauty even more.

A major reason for worshiping the snake is also that Lord Vishnu, the creator of the universe, rests on the bed of Nagadevata. The special thing related to snakes is that they are mostly carnivorous and they usually hunt rats, insects and animals found under the ground. Not only this, there are many species of snakes that also swallow their prey completely. If considered information, snakes can swallow prey twice as large as themselves.

Various types of snakes are found worldwide. These include King Cobra and Anaconda prominently. Among them, the king cobra snake is such that it can survive for several days without eating anything.
