The UNC (United Naga Council) has announced that Nagas living in Manipur will boycott the next Republic Day festivities on January 26 as part of their non-cooperation against the Centre.

The decision was made during an emergency presidential council meeting of the UNC to voice the Naga people's strong dissatisfaction with the Centre's postponement of the historic 'Framework Agreement' inked on August 3, 2015, between the Centre and the NSCN (IM). The Naga people's support for the ongoing political discussions between the Centre and the NSCN was overwhelmingly reaffirmed by the council (IM).

The UNC stated that it takes seriously the ongoing denial of the Nagas' legitimate political rights, as well as the dishonouring and enforcing of previous bi-lateral political agreements between the Nagas and India's different regimes over the years. The council also invited all Nagas, regardless of where they live, to come up and unite in defence of their right to live as dignified people.

The Government of India unilaterally abrogated the Naga-Akbar Hydari Accord (Nine Point Agreement), signed on June 28, 1947, on the grounds that "it is a pledge of a bygone age."
