The Nagchandreshwar Temple's gate, located at Ujjain, opens once in a year at 12 o'clock at Nag Panchami. People come from far and wide to visit the Nag Temple. These temples are open continuously open for 24 hours till 12 pm the next day. Today is considered to be a special day as Nagpanchami falls on Monday.

The Manhat Prakash Puri Maharaj of nagchandreswar temple at Mahakal temple and his representatives worshipped the idol of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati, enthralled at Sheshnag after the opening of the pat and after nearly an hour of worship, darshan was started in the temple for the devotees. On the day of Gapanchami, the devotees have to wait all year long to visit Nagchandreshwar, located in the middle of the top of the Mahakal temple. This is because the temple opens only once a year on the day of Nag Panchami and on this day lakhs of people consider themselves blessed by visiting Lord Nagchandreshwar.

Celebrated as the birthday of Lord Nagchandreshwar, the festival is celebrated every year by lakhs of devotees with this joy and faith. This rare statue of Lord Shiva and Parvati, enshrined in the remaining serpent in the temple of Nagchandreswar, built in the heart of the 11th century Parmar carpet temple. About five lakh devotees will reach Ujjain to visit the temple which opens only once a year. Apart from bomb squads, CCTV cameras, metal detectors, 1500 policemen and top administrative staff officials are maintaining the security of the temple. Parmar Raja Bhoj is believed to have built this temple around 1050 AD.
