Giving a striking punch overnight, the PM Modi led central government waded into the current struggle between two top officials of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by dissociate from the agency’s director, Alok Verma of his charge. It further ordered saying that M Nageshwar Rao, Joint Director at CBI will take over the duties and functions of CBI Director with immediate effect.

The theatrical step comes at a time when Alok Verma was at engaged in a head-on dispute with the CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana, booked by the agency in an alleged bribery case. Worth mention here Asthana was also service off from all his responsibilities at the agency yesterday. Asthana  has allegations to have demanded a bribe of Rs 5 crore from a Hyderabad-based entrepreneur through two middlemen to help him get off the fastening in the Moin Qureshi case. Verma also alleged corruption on Asthana’s part with reference to the Sterling Biotech case. Asthana counter attacked  through writing to the Cabinet Secretary. Verma was interfering in his investigation and had tried to cut out a raid on Lalu Prasad in the IRCTC case. He also suspected corruption on Verma’s part.
