Australia Open defending champion Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the semi-finals of the WTA tournament in Melbourne due to a stomach injury. Osaka's withdrawal has put her opponent Veronika Kudermetova in the final after getting a walkover. On the other hand, after withdrawing from the tournament, Osaka has said that she felt shocked after playing several tough matches continuously after returning from injury and hence she has no chance to take any risk. She said she is going to rest for the time being and is going to make a comeback soon. Osaka is scheduled to participate in the Australia Open starting January 17.
In a statement issued by Tennis Australia, Osaka said, 'It was a great pleasure to play here in Melbourne. Unfortunately, I have a stomach injury and I need to rest and prepare for the Australia Open.'
Canada into ATP Cup final for the first time: According to reports, Felix Auger Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov defeated Daniel Medvedev and Roman Safiyuline 4-6 7-5 10-7 in doubles match on Saturday to help Canada advance to the ATP Cup final for the first time with a 2-1 win over Russia. Canada will now face Spain in the final on Sunday. Shapovalov got Canada off to a good start by winning the opening singles but Medvedev beat Auger Eliasime to level the score. Roberto Baptista Agut on Friday defeated Spain by a 7-6 2-6 7-6 victory over Poland's Hubert Hurkasz. Former Pablo Carreno Busta defeated Jan Zielinski 6-2 6-1 to give Spain the lead.
