Indian Hockey chief Narinder Batra has been elected as the International Hockey Federation President. In the direct voting system, he stands to be the favourite contender among the competitors. Narinder Batra has been appointed the chief of Indian hockey in 2014 after he has served as secretary for the department. He will be replacing the existing president of the federation, Leandro Negre from Spain.
After the voting, Leandro Negre has announced the winner of the polls and congratulated his successor Narinder Batra. It is for the first time Indian has been elected as the International Hockey Federation President. Batra's win means the power centre of the sport will now move to Asia from Europe, which had been ruling international hockey for decades.
