Today in the Rajya Sabha, Home Minister Amit Shah will present the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill, 2019. For information, let us know that on 27 November 2019, the SPG amendment bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha. According to this bill, there is a provision that only the Prime Minister and his family members who are staying with him at the official residence will be provided SPG protection for five years. This security will be available from the day the Prime Minister takes over his charge.

Starting the debate on the bill in the Lok Sabha, according to media reports, Shah said that the SPG would provide security to the Prime Minister and his family members living at his immediate residence.

In his statement, Shah dismissed allegations of political vendetta about changes in the security of Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and said that changes were made to the Protection Act in keeping with a family. He said that after the annual assessment, a change has been made in the security of the members of the Gandhi family and a change in security has also been made within the purview of the Act. He said that security has been replaced with SPG based on the assessment of threat perception and the review was done twice and found that ASL is sufficient.
