Noted film director Buddhadeb Dasgupta passed away at his residence in the early hours of Thursday due to kidney related ailments. This was reported by the family members. Dasgupta was 77 years old. On his demise, Prime Minister Modi tweeted, "Saddened by the passing away of Buddhadev Dasgupta. His diverse works touched the hearts of all sections of the society. He was also a popular thinker and poet. My thoughts are with his family members and his fans in this time of grief"

 

 

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has condoled her demise. She wrote, 'Saddened by the passing away of noted filmmaker Buddhadev Dasgupta, Mamata Banerjee said on Twitter. Through his work, he made the language of cinema unique. His demise is a big loss to the film community. Condolences to his family, colleagues and fans'.

 

 

Expressing grief over his demise, filmmaker Gautam Ghosh said, 'Buddha Da was making films, writing articles and was active despite his ill health. He directed Tope and Urojaz even though he was not healthy. His departure is a huge loss for all of us'. Buddhadeb Dasgupta is survived by his wife and two daughters from his first marriage. Family members said the National Award winning director had been suffering from kidney disease for a long time and had regular dialysis twice every week.
