Asma Khatoon, who was popularly known as 'Shaheen Bagh's grandmother' on Tuesday, said that the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) are to live with respect, not to die with fear. This law denies citizenship to only Muslims in the country.

During a protest in front of the Raj Bhavan over this law, Asma Khatoon said, "We mothers started protesting or fighting when the demonstrations in Jamia Millia Islamia were suppressed. Hence, the protests will continue till the CAA is withdrawn." 90-year-old Asma came into the limelight when she started a performance against the CAA at Shaheen Bagh with 82-year-old Bilkis and 75-year-old Sarwari.

The farmer leader Akhil Gogoi, arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) during the demonstrations against the CAA in Assam, said on Tuesday that he will sit in jail against the law from March 1 itself. The special NIA court on Tuesday extended Gogoi's judicial custody till March 7. Akhil is an advisor to the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS). The NIA court has also extended the period of judicial custody of the general secretary of the organization Dherjya Kunwar and Bittu Sonowal, president of Sessions Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), the student unit of the organization, till March 7.
