The cold that has been wreaking havoc in North India for many days has become deadly. There are reports of 28 deaths due to cold in Uttar Pradesh, 8 in Jharkhand and 11 in Bihar. Many people have lost their lives due to the fog. Rail, road and air traffic is severely affected. The coldest day of the season was recorded in the national capital on Saturday. The cold winds in Haryana have given a bad condition to the people. Hisar recorded a temperature of 0.3 degrees Celsius. In Delhi NCR, pollution remained in a very poor category more or less everywhere.

Many districts including Kolkata in Bengal remained cloudy throughout the day and light rain occurred at some places. The temperature in Jharkhand has dropped sharply due to rain. Piparwar, 65 km from Ranchi, reached a low of 2 degrees.
