After Rahul Gandhi's resignation, the party is yet to get a new head for the post of Congress President. The Congress Working Committee meeting is on. Sonia Gandhi has left the Congress Working Committee meeting. He said, he and Rahul Gandhi are not part of the consultation process in the selection of Congress President and therefore are out of the meeting. The meeting has not reached any decision on the name of the new party president till noon. Coming out of the meeting in the afternoon, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary said, "We will meet again at 8.30 pm. The name of the new President is expected to be revealed by 9 PM.

The picture is likely to be cleared by 9 PM tonight as the Congress is expected to elect its new President or seek Rahul Gandhi's successor. Sources say that at a meeting of state party leaders and MPs on Friday ahead of the working committee meeting, several leaders gave a clear signal to Rahul Gandhi that he would not be allowed to be the chairperson.

For your information, a decision will be taken on the basis of a panel or arrangement for selection of a new Chairman at the CWC meeting. Sources said that the first brief meeting of the Congress executive will be held after which it will be divided into five groups. The group leaders will brainstorm on the names of the next Congress president along with state party chiefs. This way the name of the next Congress president will be decided. Several rounds of meetings were held before to elect a new president, but no name was agreed upon.
