Let us state that on this day, awareness about the importance of protecting endangered species, their habitats and carrying out necessary checks to protect them is to increase. Therefore, Endangered Species Day recognizes the national conservation efforts to protect the endangered species and habitats of our country. A number of programmes and youth competitions are also organized in various wildlife shelters, zoos, parks, community centres, aquariums, botanical gardens, libraries, schools and colleges etc.

What are endangered species?: Since life began on Earth, many organisms came and went or disappeared due to changes in the physical and biological conditions of the environment. We all know that it is the law of nature that extinction will happen naturally and will continue to happen. But scientific evidence suggests that the current rate of extinction of species is much higher than the background rate of the past. That is what we have to think or worry about. Isn't it!

We can say that endangered species are species that are at risk of extinction due to sudden rapid reduction in their population or loss of their vital habitat. Species like plants or animals that were at risk of extinction can be called endangered species.

According to the information received, concerns were expressed about the welfare of animals along with environment and conservation in the 1960s and 1970s. The Endangered Species Act of 1973 was signed into law on December 28 to enhance the importance of wildlife conservation and restoration efforts for all endangered species.  Janha is also said to have been the endangered Species Day first created by the US Senate in 2006.
