National Human Rights Commission to probe Bengal violence and migration: Calcutta High Court

Kolkata: The Kolkata High Court has given a major verdict on those killed in the violence that erupted after the Assembly elections in West Bengal. The High Court has ordered the National Human Rights Commission to look into the matter. According to media reports, the court has asked the National Human Rights Commission to probe the exodus of people due to violence.

Earlier, a committee was constituted by the Central Government to look into the various incidents of violence that took place after the assembly elections in West Bengal. The four-member committee submitted its report to the Central Government on Saturday (May 29, 2021). A delegation of intellectuals and teachers led by apex court advocate Monica Arora had submitted its report titled 'Played in Bengal in 2021' to the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs.

In West Bengal, 600 academicians of the country had written a letter on the violence that erupted after the assembly elections. The academicians had warned the Mamata Banerjee government not to play with constitutional values by creating an atmosphere of violence against political rebels. The writers included professors, vice chancellors, directors, deans and former vice chancellors.
