On the passing of a resolution seeking withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Act after it was passed by the Parliament of India, the Governor of Kerala Arif Mohammad Khan stated that the proposal has no legal or constitutional validity, as citizenship is specifically a central topic. That is why this proposal really has no meaning. Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs has made it clear that no state can refuse to enforce this law. The states will have to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act in any case.

A proposal has been passed in the Kerala Assembly demanding the withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Act. The CPI (M) -led ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) supported the proposal against the CAA in the Kerala Assembly. Only BJP members were seen opposing it. Pinarayi Vijayan said in the assembly, "I want to make it clear that no detention center will be set up in Kerala." Pinarayi Vijayan has said that he will not allow the Citizenship Amendment Act to be implemented in Kerala.
He further said that opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act is needless. A lot of confusion is being spread on social media about this law. By this law, citizenship of any person of any religion of India will not be taken away. This law only makes it easier for Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis, Jains, and Christians of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan living in Pakistan to gain citizenship in India. Citizenship of Muslims of India or people of any religion and community is not threatened by this law.
