New Delhi: On Friday, November 26, the 'National Milk Day' will be observed at the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) Campus in Anand, Gujarat, to honour the birth centennial of Dr Verghese Kurien, known as the 'Milk Man of India' for his outstanding contributions to the dairy sector and the founding of Amul.

According to a release from the Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the event will be co-organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the NDDB, and other institutions founded by Dr Kurien. Since 2014, November 26 has been observed as 'National Milk Day,' commemorating the birthday of Dr. Kurien, widely regarded as the father of India's white revolution. Few people are aware that Kurien also founded 30 or so farmer-run institutions.

Parshottam Rupala, the Union Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy, will inaugurate and launch the IVF Labs in Dhamrod, Gujarat, and Hesaraghatta, Karnataka. The winners of the Best Dairy Farmer rearing indigenous cattle/buffalo breeds, Best Artificial Insemination Technician, and Best Dairy Cooperative Society (DCS)/Milk Producer Company/Dairy Farmer Producer Organization in the country will also receive National Gopal Ratna Awards from Rupala.  The Department's 'Iconic Week,' which includes the week-long Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, will conclude with the commemoration of National Milk Day, according to the announcement.
