Meghalaya: CM Conrad K. Sangma has stated that his party will contest alone in the Manipur Assembly elections, emphasising on the state's and the northeastern region's major issues.

Sangma, the NPP's national president, stated on Friday that after the February 27 and March 3 elections, his party, which has fielded 43 contestants, would be the single-largest party in the 60-member Manipur Assembly and would head the government. Since 2017, the NPP has been a close ally of the BJP-led government in Manipur, with four MLAs.

Sangma told a series of rallies in several regions of the state, including Churachanpur, Moirang, Saikot, Thanlon, and Henglep, that both the BJP and the Congress have failed to comprehend the nuances of the region's people and their diverse requirements.

"We want to modify the 'culture of high command.'" Internal squabbles in major political parties were on display. The NPP is attracting the attention of the people of Manipur. The NPP was founded in Manipur, according to the party's leader. Sangma stated that the party is aware of the various difficulties and concerns that the people in the region have. The party is strongly entrenched in the Northeast. That is why people in various regions of the northeast region see the NPP as a real alternative.

"The NPP would give the people of the northeast a platform to voice their concerns and bring attention to important issues." The NPP is familiar with the dynamics of many communities and tribes. "The NPP is one of the country's eight national parties and the lone national party from the Northeast," he said.

Ningthoujam Mangi, S. Sovachandra, Lourembam Sanjoy Singh, and Thangjam Arunkumar are among the top BJP officials who have recently joined the NPP. Y. Joykumar Singh, the NPP's National Vice-President and Manipur's Deputy Chief Minister, stated his party would strive to nominate those politicians who were rejected by the BJP for the upcoming election.

The BJP, the NPP, and the Naga People's Front (NPF) forged an alliance after the 2017 assembly elections, and while the alliance is still in existence, the saffron party, the NPP and NPF have announced their candidates separately this time. The NPF, which has political bases in both Manipur and Nagaland, has released its first list, which includes ten candidates.
