Teachers' Day 2023: President Droupadi Murmu is set to bestow the prestigious National Teachers' Award 2023 upon 75 distinguished educators today. The ceremony will take place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on September 5th. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had formed three separate independent national panels, comprising eminent individuals, to meticulously select these honorees.
Each recipient will be presented with a certificate of merit, a generous cash prize of Rs.50,000, a silver medal, and a unique opportunity to engage in dialogue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This year's accolades will be bestowed upon 50 school teachers, 13 college educators, and 12 teachers from the Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The Ministry of Education has underscored the significance of the National Teachers' Award, emphasizing its aim to celebrate the exceptional contributions of educators in the nation. This award seeks to honor those teachers who have not only enhanced the quality of education but have also enriched the lives of their students through unwavering dedication and commitment.
The Department of School and Literacy, operating under the Ministry of Education, annually coordinates the Teachers' Day festivities, where national awards are presented to the country's most outstanding teachers. The ministry underscores that these educators are chosen through a rigorous and transparent selection process.
Furthermore, the award's scope has been expanded to encompass educators from the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The Education ministry expressed its intention to acknowledge innovative teaching methods, research, community engagement, and the novelty of work. Nominations were solicited through online channels to encourage broader participation, following the principle of "Jan Bhagidari" or public engagement.
Each year, India celebrates Teachers' Day on September 5th to honor the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the country's first Vice President and former President. Dr. Radhakrishnan, a distinguished scholar, philosopher, and recipient of the Bharat Ratna, was born on this day in 1888. Students across the nation engage in various activities such as performances, dances, and elaborate shows to express their deep gratitude and appreciation for their beloved teachers. Even individuals who have completed their formal education find Teachers' Day an excellent opportunity to express their heartfelt gratitude to their mentors and recognize the profound impact teachers have had on their lives.
