Counting of by-elections in three assembly seats of West Bengal is going on recently. In the initial trend, BJP is leading in two seats and Trinamool candidates are leading in 1 seat. Trinamool candidates are ahead in Karimpur seat, BJP candidates are leading in Kharagpur Sadar and Kaliaganj seats.

According to the media report, this is the first time in the state after the Lok Sabha elections when these two political parties are facing each other in the electoral arena. Of the three seats for which the by-elections are being held, one was occupied by the Trinamool Congress, the other by the BJP and the third by the Congress. The by-elections in three seats in Bengal can be a litmus test for the BJP and the state's ruling Trinamool Congress, which won 18 seats in West Bengal in the Lok Sabha elections. After the general elections, this by-election is the first test of the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state and the BJP performed well in the Lok Sabha elections.

According to the Election Commission, the BJP is leading in two seats, while the Trinamool Congress is ahead in one seat. The ruling Trinamool Congress in the state is facing a tough challenge from the Bharatiya Janata Party. The seats where the by-elections were held include Kharagpur in West Medinipur district, Karimpur in Nadia district and Kaliaganj seats in Uttar Dinajpur. Kaliaganj seat is vacant after the death of Congress MLA Pramathanath Rai, while the state BJP president Dilip Ghosh, who was last elected MLA from Kharagpur seat, resigned due to winning the Lok Sabha elections. Karimpur's Trinamool MLA Mahua Mitra also resigned after winning the Krishnanagar parliamentary seat.
