Kyiv: Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to implement a no-fly zone over his nation or face Russian attacks on NATO member states on Monday.
"I emphasise that if you do not seal our skies, it is only a matter of time before Russian missiles fall on your area, on NATO territory, and on the houses of NATO citizens," Zelenskyy warned in his virtual address on Monday. He spoke a day after Russian troops launched airstrikes on a military training field near the NATO member Poland, killing 35 people and injuring more than 130 others.
The Ukrainian President further stated that if NATO does not impose preventative sanctions, Russia will start a conflict and utilise Nord Stream 2 as a weapon. "I had warned NATO that Russia would start a conflict if preventive sanctions were not imposed, and that Moscow would use Nord Stream 2 as a weapon," he claimed.
According to a media source, Russia claimed to have killed 180 "foreign mercenaries" in a missile assault on the Yavoriv military training field in western Ukraine. Kyiv, on the other hand, dismissed the claim as "pure Russian propaganda." Meanwhile, Zelenskyy stated that at a meeting with European Council President Charles Michel, significant emphasis was paid to the next steps in Ukraine's EU membership negotiations.
