Chandigarh: Congress working president Sonia Gandhi has appointed Navjot Singh Sidhu as the new president of the party's Punjab unit. Sonia Gandhi took the decision even after state CM Amarinder Singh raised objections. Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu's first reaction after becoming president has surfaced. Sidhu thanked Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and said that my visit has now begun.

Navjot Singh Sidhu wrote in his official tweet, "I am grateful to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, they trusted me and gave me this important responsibility." He said, "Through the 18-point agenda of the Punjab model and high command, we will work with every member of the Congress family to complete the campaign of 'Jitega Punjab'. My journey has now begun.''

Sidhu also shared a picture of his father with former PM Jawaharlal Nehru. He wrote, "My father, who shared prosperity, privilege and freedom not only among some people, but with everyone, had left a Congress worker royal family and joined the freedom war. He was sentenced to death for patriotism, then became the president, MLA, MLC and advocate general of the DCC after getting relief from King's Amnesty.''
