New Delhi: Former Punjab Congress unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu has been sentenced to one year in jail by the Supreme Court. This sentence has been given to Sidhu in the 1988 road rage case. The road rage case against Sidhu is being heard. They had a fight over parking in Patiala in the year 1988 i.e. about 34 years ago. In which an elderly person lost his life. Earlier in this case, the apex court had released Sidhu by imposing a fine of Rs. Against this the aggrieved party filed a review petition.

This road rage case against Sidhu dates back to the year 1988. Sidhu got into an argument with 65-year-old Gurnam Singh over parking in Patiala. During this there was a scuffle between them. In which Sidhu allegedly punched Gurnam Singh. Later Gurnam Singh died. After which a case of culpable homicide was registered against Navjot Singh Sidhu and his friend Rupinder Singh Sidhu.

After that the matter reached the court. During the hearing, the sessions court had acquitted Navjot Singh Sidhu in 1999 due to lack of evidence. After this, the aggrieved party reached the High Court against the decision of the Sessions Court. In the year 2006, the High Court sentenced Navjot Singh Sidhu to three years imprisonment and a fine of one lakh rupees in this case. Navjot Sidhu had reached the Supreme Court against the sentence given by the High Court. Where the Supreme Court had left him by imposing a fine of 1000 rupees, after which a review petition was filed and now Sidhu was punished.
